SP Motorsports driver Sara Price brought home the win after a stellar five-day performance at the Sonora Rally in Mexico. The victory earned her an entry spot into the Dakar Rally in the SSV class - a long-time goal for Price.
“The Sonora Rally was one for the books, and I am honestly still on Cloud Nine. Getting to Dakar has been a dream of mine since 2015, and this year I decided to put 100 percent of my focus toward it. We are going to Dakar, and I can’t wait to do it!’’
Price has been on a strong path this year after switching to Can-Am and Alsup Racing Development. The Can-Am Maverick X3 has performed flawlessly since the program launched. With Dakar in mind, Price’s strategy for this race was to run a clean and smart race for the whole duration of the event. Having experienced Sonora Rally in the past, Price came prepared and confident she could get through all stages smoothly.
This year, the Sonora Rally was a Federation Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA) governed rally with top teams from across the globe and part of the FIA World-Rally-Raid Championship. The 776 miles, five-day, ‘’Dakar’’ style navigation is the ultimate challenge between competitor, machine and terrain, testing navigation, and off-road racing skills, while being immersed into the beautiful and unique Sonoran landscape and culture.
Price teamed up with navigator Jeremy Gray, turning in consistent results beginning with the fastest prologue, followed by two stage wins. Sara and her team raced 17 hours, 14 minutes to conquer the Sonora Rally.
