Bilstein’s New Black Hawk UTV Shocks Succeed At KOH

Bilstein-sponsored racers had a strong showing at this year’s King of the Hammers off-road motorsports event. Doug Mittag, fitted with Bilstein’s new Black Hawk Powersports UTV shocks on his Polaris Pro R, crossed the line first and placed second on corrected time in the Toyo UTV Desert Challenge on Saturday. Black Hawk UTV shocks use a proprietary Zone Control internal bump-stop system that provides position-sensitive damping without the downsides of internal bypass.

On Monday’s Short Course, in what turned out to be a knock-down brawl of a finish, Ryan Beat took first place in the Pro 2 Unlimited competing on Bilstein shocks while Doug Mittag came in third. Other Bilstein-sponsored racers who had strong showings include Brian Deegan, who took fourth place in the Can-Am Pro-Stock Turbo UTV class on Thursday and placed 17th overall.

“We couldn’t be more proud of our racers’ achievements this year as well as the performance of our new Black Hawk Powersports dampers,” said Steve Seggern, Head of Marketing & Powersports for Bilstein. “And let’s not forget thanking Dave Cole’s group for putting on the most spectacular event in off-road racing. We’re excited and looking forward to continuing our re-entry into desert motorsports, a winning legacy that dates back almost 50 years in North America.”

King of the Hammers brings off-road racing competitors from 37 U.S. states and multiple countries to the Johnson Valley area of southern California. The 13-day event includes separate races for UTVs, desert-racing trucks, buggies and motorcycles. Bilstein was there again this year to showcase their products and support sponsored racers. Fans also had the opportunity to visit the Bilstein booth to meet and greet drivers.

Bilstein-backed racers compete on the company’s 9200 Series Bypass, 9200 Coilover, 7100 and Black Hawk Powersports shock absorbers. For the first time, the company’s new Black Hawk Powersports shocks are available for the Powersports market and offer Bilstein's patented two-stage, externally adjustable Zone Control jounce cut-off system.
